Quick answer

Four days off the main roads, from Marrakech to the dunes of Merzouga. You ride an Enduro motorcycle or travel by 4x4, through oasis valleys, gorges and open desert, and spend three nights on the road — the last one in a desert camp. Duration: 4 days / 3 nights · Marrakech to Merzouga · from € 1.310 per person.

About this tour

This is four days off the main roads, from Marrakech to the dunes of Merzouga. You cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres, then follow the oasis valleys south — the Draa Valley and the Ziz Valley — past palm groves and mud-brick villages. The third day brings you through the Todra Gorge and out to Merzouga, where the Erg Chebbi dunes rise up to 150 metres.

You choose how to travel: on an Enduro motorcycle, or by 4x4. The Enduro version is for riders with off-road experience — the tracks are a mix of mountain roads, valley tracks and desert pistes, and you ride your own bike with a guide. The 4x4 version suits everyone: you travel with a driver, so you can sit back and watch the country go by.

Nights are split between guesthouses and a desert camp. The first two nights are in small guesthouses in the valleys, and the third night is in a Berber camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes, with dinner, music and a night under the stars. The last morning starts with sunrise over the dunes.

The whole trip is about 560 km from Marrakech to Merzouga, spread over four days so no day is too long. The best months are March to May and September to November, when the days are warm and the mountain passes are clear.

Highlights

Enduro or 4x4 — your choice

Ride an Enduro motorcycle if you have off-road experience, or travel by 4x4 with a driver. Both follow the same route, and both end in the dunes of Merzouga.

Tizi n'Tichka pass, 2,260 m

The road over the High Atlas climbs to 2,260 metres. The views open out over valleys and peaks on both sides of the pass.

Draa Valley and Ziz Valley

Two long oasis valleys, green with palm groves, running between dry mountains. The road follows the river past villages and kasbahs.

Todra Gorge

A narrow canyon with steep rock walls on both sides. The road runs along the river at the bottom of the gorge.

Night in a desert camp

The third night is in a Berber camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes — dinner, music around the fire, and a night under the stars.

Three nights on the road

Two nights in valley guesthouses and one in the dunes. The route is spread over four days, so the driving never feels rushed.

How it goes

Day 1 – Marrakech over the Atlas to the Draa Valley

Leave Marrakech in the morning and cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres. Drop down into the Draa Valley, past palm groves and villages, and spend the night in a guesthouse in the valley.

Day 2 – Draa Valley to the Todra Gorge

Follow the valley roads east, through oasis towns and dry mountains, to the Todra Gorge. Walk into the gorge in the afternoon, then overnight in a guesthouse nearby.

Day 3 – Todra Gorge to Merzouga

Ride out of the gorge and across the desert plains to Merzouga. In the late afternoon, reach your desert camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Dinner, music and a night under the stars.

Day 4 – Sunrise and the road back

Wake for sunrise over the dunes, then start the road back — to Marrakech, or on to your next stop, as agreed when you book.
