VISIT MAGHREB / Tours / 5-Day Casablanca Imperial Cities Tour: Rabat, Chefchaouen & Fes
Quick answer
Five days through the imperial cities from Casablanca: Rabat, the blue city of Chefchaouen, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, Meknes and two days in Fes. The city tour for travellers who want history and medinas, without the desert drive. 5 days · 4 nights · from € 799 per person · Private tour.
This 5-day Casablanca tour is a private tour starting and ending in Casablanca. The route runs from Casablanca through Rabat, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes and back to Casablanca. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own driver, only with your own group, you set the pace, and you stay in hand-picked riads and hotels along the way.
The imperial cities are the heart of this tour: the medina of Fes with its tanneries and craft workshops, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the gates of Meknes and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. Each city gets a full day, so you see the sights without rushing from one to the next. This is the Morocco imperial cities tour for travellers who want history as well as desert.
The best time to visit Morocco is March to May and September to November, when the days are warm and the crowds are thinner. The tour runs all year. The price for this tour is confirmed on enquiry — send us your dates and group size and we send you a quote.
1 / 5Blue streets of Chefchaouen
Morocco's biggest city, home to the Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic shore.
The capital — the Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Udayas and the royal city by the sea.
The blue city in the Rif mountains, famous for its blue-painted streets and relaxed pace.
Roman ruins with mosaics, on a hill above the plain between Fes and Meknes.
The imperial city of Moulay Ismail, with the Bab Mansour gate and the granaries.
The oldest medina in the world — tanneries, craft workshops and 9,000 alleys to get lost in.
We meet you in Casablanca and start with the Hassan II Mosque, seen from outside on the edge of the Atlantic. Then we drive north to Rabat, the capital, a calm city of wide streets and gardens by the Bouregreg river. We bring you to your hotel for the night, where dinner is included.
In the morning we take a walk through Rabat, the capital, before the road turns north through farmland and the Rif foothills to Chefchaouen, the blue city in the mountains. In the afternoon we wander the blue-painted lanes of the old town, where every corner is a photo and the pace is slow. We spend the night in Chefchaouen, with dinner included.
We leave the blue city behind and drive south to Volubilis, the Roman ruins in the hills, where mosaics and columns still stand in the open air. From there we pass Meknes, one of the imperial cities, with its great gate and old walls, and continue to Fes. In the evening we bring you to a riad in the medina, where dinner is included and the old city is right outside the door.
This day belongs to Fes, the oldest of the imperial cities, and we explore the medina with a local guide. The route leads through the tanneries, where leather is still dyed by hand, the Medersa and the craft quarters, where potters, weavers and metalworkers keep old trades alive. The guide knows the lanes and the workshops, so you see the craft at work instead of only the shop fronts. We spend a second night in Fes, with dinner included.
After breakfast we leave Fes and drive back towards the coast, with a stop in Rabat on the way. Rabat is the capital, a calm city of gardens and wide streets by the Bouregreg river, and the drive gives a last look at the north. The road follows the motorway through the northern plains to Casablanca, where the tour ends in the afternoon.

“I highly recommend this agency. We sent them our rough itinerary and they came back with a great plan; after a little fine-tuning we were off to Morocco. We especially loved hiking with Mohamed in the High Atlas from Imlil. Our driver Ali ran the whole logistics — dependable, punctual and honest. I can't praise our experience highly enough.”

“Friends recommended Visit Maghreb, so we booked our 5-Day Casablanca Imperial Cities Tour: Rabat, Chefchaouen & Fes. Our guide Hassan met us at the airport and took us everywhere — Jemaa el Fna, the Bahia Palace, Jardin Majorelle, and then the Sahara, where we rode camels over the dunes and watched sunset and sunrise. An unforgettable desert tour. Highly recommended.”

“An amazing desert ride — the sunset and sunrise will stay with you forever, and the staff is always there for you. There is a lot of road to cover by car, but the camel ride repays your patience. We stopped in lovely places with good food along the way. Strongly recommended.”
