VISIT MAGHREB / Tours / 5-Day Marrakech to Casablanca Tour via Merzouga
Quick answer
From Marrakech through the desert to Casablanca: the Dades Valley, Todra Gorge, Merzouga with the camp, then via the Ziz Valley to Fes and on via Rabat to Casablanca. The one-way route for travellers who arrive in Marrakech and fly out of Casablanca. 5 days · 4 nights · from € 749 per person · Private tour.
This 5-day Marrakech to Casablanca desert tour is a private Morocco desert tour from Marrakech to Casablanca. The route runs from Marrakech through Aït Ben Haddou, Dades Valley, Todra Gorge, Merzouga / Erg Chebbi to Casablanca. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own driver, only with your own group, you set the pace, and you stay in hand-picked riads and hotels along the way.
The best part is the desert itself. In Merzouga you swap the car for camels and take a camel ride in Erg Chebbi at sunset, then spend the night in a desert camp in Erg Chebbi with dinner and Berber music by the fire. Wake up early for the sunrise over the dunes — the quietest hour of the whole trip — and try sandboarding before the ride back to the village.
The best time to visit Merzouga is March to May and September to November, when the days are warm and the crowds are thinner. The tour runs all year. The price for this tour is confirmed on enquiry — send us your dates and group size and we send you a quote.

The Red City — Jemaa el-Fna square, the Koutoubia mosque and the souks of the medina.
The clay ksar on the old caravan road, a UNESCO site made famous by films — walk the alleys and climb to the top.
A valley of rose gardens and red rock, where the road winds between the cliffs and the kasbahs.
Walk between 300-metre rock walls in the narrowest part of the gorge — the most dramatic canyon in Morocco.
Ride camels into the dunes at sunset and sleep in a desert camp under the stars — the high sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, up to 150 m.
The Ziz Valley — a green line of palm groves cutting through the desert on the road to Merzouga.
The tour leaves Marrakech and climbs over the High Atlas and the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres. On the other side the road reaches Ait Ben Haddou, the old ksar of clay houses above the river. From there the drive continues into the Dades Valley, past kasbahs and palm groves. You spend the night in a hotel in the Dades Valley.
From the Dades Valley the road leads to Todra Gorge, where it runs between high rock walls. The drive then turns east, across dry plains, to Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the late afternoon you ride camels into the dunes at sunset. The night is spent in the desert camp, with dinner in camp.
The morning starts with sunrise over the dunes and breakfast in the desert camp. Then the drive leaves Merzouga and follows the Ziz Valley north, past palm groves and kasbahs. The road climbs through the Middle Atlas on the way to Fes. You spend the night in a riad in the medina of Fes.
This is a guided day on foot in the medina of Fes, one of the oldest medinas in Morocco. The walk takes in the tanneries, the Medersa and the craft quarters, with their workshops and small shops. Your guide explains how the medina works and what to look for as you go. You spend the night in Fes, in the same riad.
The last day drives from Fes via Rabat to Casablanca, about 290 kilometres in total. The drive goes via Rabat, the capital, and on to the coast. The tour ends in Casablanca in the afternoon, at your hotel or at the airport.
The from-price is per person for the tour as described. The exact price depends on your travel dates, group size and hotels — it falls as the group grows. Your quote after the enquiry is the price that counts.

“Friends recommended Visit Maghreb, so we booked our 5-Day Marrakech to Casablanca Tour via Merzouga. Our guide Hassan met us at the airport and took us everywhere — Jemaa el Fna, the Bahia Palace, Jardin Majorelle, and then the Sahara, where we rode camels over the dunes and watched sunset and sunrise. An unforgettable desert tour. Highly recommended.”

“An amazing desert ride — the sunset and sunrise will stay with you forever, and the staff is always there for you. There is a lot of road to cover by car, but the camel ride repays your patience. We stopped in lovely places with good food along the way. Strongly recommended.”

“The Sahara is a magical place, and I couldn't have asked for better hosts. I arrived late and missed my sunset camel ride, but Hassan arranged a morning ride instead — and the dawn was well worth the early alarm. I loved a day in the desert with Ibrahim: the landscape, the desert plants and animals, the people and history, and Gnaoua music. Ibrahim is also a fantastic cook — he made us a fresh picnic lunch in the shade of a great tamarisk tree. Back at camp in time for a magnificent sunset, a delicious meal and music around the campfire, then glittering stars. Hassan's communication was excellent throughout. A small family business, and it shows in the care they bring to every moment.”
