About this tour

This 3-day Marrakech desert tour is a private Morocco desert tour starting and ending in Marrakech. The route runs from Marrakech through High Atlas, Aït Ben Haddou, Dades Valley, Todra Gorge and back to Marrakech. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own driver, only with your own group, you set the pace, and you stay in hand-picked riads and hotels along the way.

This Morocco student tour is built for student groups: the pace is relaxed, the rooms are shared where that saves money, and the driver knows the student stops — the viewpoints, the cheap eats, the places to watch the sunset. Teachers and group leaders travel with the group. The camel ride in Erg Chebbi and the night in the desert camp are the parts everyone remembers.

The best time to visit Merzouga is March to May and September to November, when the days are warm and the crowds are thinner. The tour runs all year. The price for this tour is confirmed on enquiry — send us your dates and group size and we send you a quote.

Day by day

Day 1 — Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades Valley

Your Morocco student tour starts in Marrakech. The road climbs into the High Atlas and crosses the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres, with wide views over the mountains. After the pass you stop at Ait Ben Haddou, the old fortified village of clay houses. Then the road continues into the Dades Valley, where you spend the night in a hotel.

Day 2 — Dades Valley to Todra Gorge and Merzouga

From the Dades Valley you drive to Todra Gorge, where the road runs between high rock walls. After a stop there, the road leads east to Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the late afternoon you ride a camel into the dunes at sunset. The night is spent in the desert camp, with dinner under the stars.

Day 3 — Merzouga to Ouarzazate and Marrakech

The day starts with sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast in the camp you start the long return drive to Marrakech, via Ouarzazate and back over the High Atlas. Questions, answered

Is the tour suitable for a school class or university group?

Yes. The tour is planned for groups: you travel only with your own group, in your own vehicle, and the pace fits the group's budget.

Are there multi-bed rooms?

On request. In the hotels and riads we ask for multi-bed rooms where they exist. In the desert camp the group sleeps in tents with several beds.

What does the tour cost for a group?

The from-price is €349 per person. The exact price depends on group size, rooms and travel date — we state it after your enquiry.

Can we change the route?

Yes. The days can be shortened or extended, and we add stops you want. Write your plan in the enquiry.

What is the best time for this tour?

March to May and September to November are the best months: warm days, cool desert nights and clear skies. The tour runs all year. In summer (June to August) the desert is very hot, over 45°C, so the camel ride and the camp stay are planned for the cooler hours.

How many days do you need for a tour starting and ending in Marrakech?

3 days is the right length for this route: starting and ending in Marrakech, at a relaxed pace, with the desert night in Erg Chebbi and time at each stop. If you have more time, ask us to add a day.
