VISIT MAGHREB / Tours / 7-Day Morocco Student Tour: Imperial Cities and Desert
Quick answer
Seven days for student groups: Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes and Merzouga, then over the Dades Valley to Marrakech. Imperial cities and desert in one week, at group pace, with a from-price for the group. 7 days · 6 nights · from € 749 per person · Private tour.
This 7-day Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour is a private Morocco desert tour from Casablanca to Marrakech. The route runs from Casablanca through Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, Ziz Valley to Marrakech. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own driver, only with your own group, you set the pace, and you stay in hand-picked riads and hotels along the way.
This Morocco student tour is built for student groups: the pace is relaxed, the rooms are shared where that saves money, and the driver knows the student stops — the viewpoints, the cheap eats, the places to watch the sunset. Teachers and group leaders travel with the group. The camel ride in Erg Chebbi and the night in the desert camp are the parts everyone remembers.
The best time to visit Merzouga is March to May and September to November, when the days are warm and the crowds are thinner. The tour runs all year. The price for this tour is confirmed on enquiry — send us your dates and group size and we send you a quote.
1 / 5Dades Valley in Morocco
Morocco's biggest city, home to the Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic shore.
The capital — the Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Udayas and the royal city by the sea.
The blue city in the Rif mountains, famous for its blue-painted streets and relaxed pace.
The oldest medina in the world — tanneries, craft workshops and 9,000 alleys to get lost in.
The Ziz Valley — a green line of palm groves cutting through the desert on the road to Merzouga.
Ride camels into the dunes at sunset and sleep in a desert camp under the stars — the high sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, up to 150 m.
Your Morocco student tour starts in Casablanca. After arrival you see the Hassan II Mosque from outside, a huge mosque right on the Atlantic shore. Then you drive north to Rabat, the capital, which takes about an hour. The evening is free to settle in and have dinner in Rabat.
After a walk through Rabat in the morning, the road leads north to Chefchaouen. The drive takes around four hours and the landscape slowly changes to green hills. In the afternoon you reach the blue city in the Rif Mountains. You spend the night in Chefchaouen, with time to walk its blue-painted streets.
The route continues south to Fes, with stops at the Roman ruins of Volubilis and in Meknes on the way. Volubilis shows old mosaics and columns from Roman times, and Meknes is one of the old imperial cities. The drive takes most of the day. In the evening you check into a riad in the medina of Fes.
Today is a guided day on foot in the medina of Fes. Your guide takes you to the tanneries, where leather is still dyed by hand, and to the Medersa, a fine old Koran school. You also walk through the craft quarters, where coppersmiths, weavers and woodcarvers work in small shops. The medina is a maze of lanes, so the guide makes the day easy to follow.
The long drive south starts today. The road crosses the Middle Atlas and follows the Ziz Valley, with palm groves and red rock along the way. After about seven to eight hours you reach Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the late afternoon you ride a camel into the dunes at sunset and spend the night in the desert camp.
The day starts with sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Then you drive west to Todra Gorge, where the road runs between high rock walls, and on into the Dades Valley. The valley is known for its rose-coloured rock and small kasbah villages. You spend the night in a hotel in the Dades Valley.
From the Dades Valley the road leads to Ouarzazate and on to Ait Ben Haddou, the old fortified village of clay houses. You have time to look around the ksar before the road crosses the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres. In the late afternoon you arrive in Marrakech, where the tour ends.
The from-price is per person for the tour as described. The exact price depends on your travel dates, group size and hotels — it falls as the group grows. Your quote after the enquiry is the price that counts.

“An amazing desert ride — the sunset and sunrise will stay with you forever, and the staff is always there for you. There is a lot of road to cover by car, but the camel ride repays your patience. We stopped in lovely places with good food along the way. Strongly recommended.”

“The Sahara is a magical place, and I couldn't have asked for better hosts. I arrived late and missed my sunset camel ride, but Hassan arranged a morning ride instead — and the dawn was well worth the early alarm. I loved a day in the desert with Ibrahim: the landscape, the desert plants and animals, the people and history, and Gnaoua music. Ibrahim is also a fantastic cook — he made us a fresh picnic lunch in the shade of a great tamarisk tree. Back at camp in time for a magnificent sunset, a delicious meal and music around the campfire, then glittering stars. Hassan's communication was excellent throughout. A small family business, and it shows in the care they bring to every moment.”
